A different cover of Rina Sawayama’s XS has appeared on the 2022, 2023, and 2024 editions of The Best of Collegiate A Cappella. I can’t tell if this is a pun about excess, if nobody at Varsity Vocals noticed, or it just so happens 3 different college groups recorded the same song and it truly was one of the best submissions each year.

That being said, I hope someone is working on a 2025 submission.

local demon has fallen behind on her Sin Quota and must commit atrocities to make up for it

the new frankenstein movie is better than the original because the Dr. Frankenstein equivalent is a cute girl who loves the abomination she has created, thus precluding the folly and narrative of the original work.

I really want to know if @corosiaspara is aware of Lisa Frankenstein

Mean Girls: Wednesdays We Wear Pink Screening Thoughts

*Reneé Rapp should sing a James Bond theme

*Lizzy Caplan is my queen so Auli’i Cravalho is my [Disney] Princess

*All of Aaron Samuels’s singing lines were cut and good riddance

*I love Ashley Park but why was she the only original musical cast member who gets to collect a check?

*Jenna Fischer looks like she could really be Angourie Rice’s mom, but I’ll note Busy Phillips is slightly younger than Rachel McAdams

Screenshot from the Mean Girls Musical libretto: Cady: Are you okay? Gretchen: Mmhmm. Mmhmm. It’s just…sometimes I feel like an iPhone without a case. Like, I know I’m worth a lot, and I have a lot of good functions, but at any time I could just shatter.ALT

They cut my favourite line about feeling like an iPhone without a case, which I blame on all the Android phone product placement.

*Regina’s derogatory nickname for Janis was changed to something close the suggested edit in the high school version of the Mean Girls libretto, but the backstory is also altered and for the better I think.

*There was generally less humour relying on race or culture. Things like “Asian nerds, cool Asians” and “You can’t just ask people why they’re white” were already not in the musical, but there were no jokes about Kenya, Kevin G’s nickname for Cady isn’t “Africa,” it’s not implied Mr Duvall ever lived in the Southside. I’m trying to remember if they cut “Sexy Rosa Parks” from Karen’s number…

*George Lucas Talk Show hive is eating.

All in all I enjoyed and am looking forward to the Alamo Sing-Along version Friday (I just hope I’m not the only one singing…)

Two spoilers below cut although one was spoiled by the trailer

The ‘What If…?’ finale both showed that the writers could be imaginative and also highlighted the series’s limitations. There were Easter eggs galore sure, but when it comes to dialog? Not a single Spider-Man or X-Men character. Nothing from the Disney+ or Netflix series characters. The Ten Rings do show up twice but otherwise nothing from Phases 4 or 5 (discussion question: would America Chavez have been perfect for this show or broken the concept entirely)

Imagine if one of the Universe Killers had been Daisy/Skye/Quake. Or Black Bolt. Or something I couldn’t even imagine because I’m not a professional writer.

Even with Kahhori — look, I want Devery Jacobs to Get That Check™️. And I know some people complain when you race/gender swap a character instead of making a new one, so I appreciate they tried (although really isn’t it “What If…Captain Marvel was Mohawk instead of just wearing one?”). But to have her episode end with her ushering in world peace then suggest somehow World War II would not only still have happened but that Hydra would have won…HOW? Is it because Strange basically abducted her? If so say that. Otherwise it makes it seem like But for White Savio[u]rs America would be lost.

I get that animation takes time and that if you, say, give N’amor plot details to animators they’re going to leak. And I also know that a lot of Marvel movies were coming down to wire so it’s not like there was something to give anyway. And-AND I know ‘What If’ itself was in such a crunch it didn’t even finish its Gamora episode in time for the first season.

Maybe there are contractual reasons we couldn’t get, say, Morbius v Blade or Venom v The Human Torch. Maybe Marvel is also saving stuff for Secret Wars (or Deadpool III??). But you’re telling me they couldn’t have gotten Jessica Gao to write a What If She Hulk could see The Watcher thing? That there was nothing to be done with The Eternals and Bill Skarsgård’s Kro? That Iman Vellani doesn’t have a thousand What If pitches in her notebook RIGHT NOW??

Is Meet the Robinsons referenced in the credits sequence for Wish?

I distinctly remember seeing Chicken Little and Bolt but don’t remember anything in between.

And it’s not a matter of Walt Disney Animation Studios v Walt Disney Feature Animation. Bolt and all the other WDAS feature films were referenced.

Help me Disney Tumblr — you’re my only hope

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Thoughts +1 Sonic Spoiler & 1 Seminal Spoiler

I went into this show *needing* one thing – no bisexual erasure – and I got it. I got it and more! Justice for Knives! Justice for Robot-01 (if not The Twins…)! Justice for…The Virtual Boy? A character arc for Wallace that made me weep! Ramona cosplaying Death Stranding! A Black character that had lines! :p

I didn’t miss Beck even though I wouldn’t say there were any Sex Bob-Bomb songs here that stuck with me on first watch. There is a song by a different band that I liked even if in-universe it only has 100…105 views. No ‘Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl’ but it wasn’t made for the movie anyway. Someone who has played Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game more recently than I have can speak probably better on Anamanaguchi and the show’s score.

Also there’s a point where two characters are discussing Super Sonic and one says “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and the other says “Sonic 2,” which I’m going to take as a reference to the second Sonic movie.
